Some of the best business stories are the ones that weren’t planned at all. For Samantha Moses, owner of The Handcrafted Cookie Co. LLC, the path to entrepreneurship didn’t begin with a pitch deck or a business loan—it began with a single Facebook post that changed everything.
A Sweet Foundation
While Samantha officially launched her business in May 2024, her love for baking is deeply rooted in her childhood. Growing up, she learned the ropes from her mother, who ran a small cottage bakery specializing in cheesecakes. However, Samantha eventually found her own specific artistic medium: the decorated sugar cookie.
Her journey into cookie art began when she offered to make treats for her sister-in-law’s baby shower. She instantly fell in love with the process, realizing she preferred working on the flat surface of a cookie rather than the structural challenges of cakes.

The “Accidental” Business
As a busy stay-at-home mother to three young children, Samantha had no immediate intention of starting a company. But talent has a way of being noticed. After she baked a batch of cookies for her nephew’s first birthday and posted a picture on Facebook, the response was overwhelming. The post “absolutely blew up,” with friends and strangers alike flooding her inbox to place orders.
What started as a hobby quickly transitioned into a full-fledged enterprise. As Samantha describes it, she “accidentally started a business,” driven entirely by demand and the quality of her work.
Bringing Visions to Life
For Samantha, the joy of the job goes far beyond mixing flour and sugar. Her favorite aspect of running The Handcrafted Cookie Co. is the creative collaboration with her clients. She loves listening to a client’s vision for a party or event and figuring out how to translate that idea into edible art.
She recalls a specific order with a “Little Prince” theme where the family wanted to incorporate their last name. Taking those abstract ideas and bringing them to life in cookie form is what fuels her passion.

The Balancing Act
Despite her rapid success, Samantha remains grounded regarding the struggles of entrepreneurship. Her biggest challenge is one that many parents face: the delicate balancing act between running a growing business and being a present mother.
With two daughters still at home, time is her most scarce resource. She frankly admits that she often has to turn down orders—even ones she would enjoy making—because she refuses to compromise on her family time. However, this ability to set boundaries is also a strength; Samantha believes that protecting her time is essential to preventing burnout and maintaining the creative drive that makes her cookies special.

Success and Future Ambitions
Today, The Handcrafted Cookie Co. is thriving. Remarkably, Samantha notes that 60% to 65% of her clients find her by “just googling” for cookies in the area, a testament to her strong local presence. Facebook also remains a powerhouse for her, where videos of her decorating process help turn viewers into customers.
Looking to the future, Samantha has exciting plans to expand beyond just baking. She is preparing to launch in-person cookie decorating classes, partnering with local businesses and eventually hosting students in her own home.
While she currently enjoys the flexibility of working from home, her long-term dream is to open a brick-and-mortar location once her children are older and more independent. She also hopes to eventually bring on a social media director to help manage the marketing side of the business so she can focus on what she does best: creating.
The Secret Ingredient
Ultimately, Samantha believes her success comes down to one thing: passion. She notes that in a creative industry, a lack of enthusiasm inevitably shows up in the final product. By staying true to her love for the craft and prioritizing her family, Samantha Moses has built something truly sweet—a business that brings joy to her community, one handcrafted cookie at a time.
