Chapter 01

Introducing Maranda & Sustainable Fashion Vision

All right. So, we're here today with Maranda from Trend Resetters. Tell us a little bit about yourself and about your business. All right. Um, well, I'm a mom of two. I have a one-year-old and a 12-year-old. It's kind of crazy, but that's how I live my life. Um, I'm 35. This isn't my first business. Um, but I've been, I think, making my way towards this business with all the other things that I've done along the way. Um, I grew up in Greenville. So, yeah, I feel like that's all the big points. So, tell us a little bit about um, trend resetters and what it is that you're trying to do there. Okay, so trend resetters is basically about the fashion that we have on the planet is enough to clothe everyone for like I don't know the exact statistics, but it's a long time. We don't really need any more clothes.

Chapter 02

Philosophy of Sustainable Vintage Fashion

And um you know, all of the clothes being made today are terrible quality, like unoriginal, and I just have a passion for people expressing themselves through what they wear, and I always have. Um and I think your clothes really matter. They make you like act a certain way and become a certain kind of person. You know, when you put something on, you feel really good in it. You act that way. Um and vice versa. So anyway, super passionate about clothes and I'm passionate about being original and um yeah, that's kind of what I'm doing with my business. I think vintage is one of a kind. It's fun and different and unique and yeah, I'm reusing things that are there to make people happy and dress better. Seems almost kind of like endless combinations of things, too. You have multiple eras, multiple things to pull from, and they don't make it like they used to is what they always say. Right. Exactly.

Chapter 03

Passion for Connecting with Customers

Okay. So, what do you think are some of your favorite parts about what you're doing? Like, what's something that zones you in and can be considered your why? Um, it's definitely the like personal interaction with people that I get. I used to be a personal trainer and um I had to get out of that business because I didn't like telling people to lose weight um because I had a journey of my own that kind of led me away from that. But I really loved building people up and talking, you know, just compassion to them and and helping them be better and just connecting on a deep level. And then I kind of get to do the same thing in the store with people. I get to see them like light up and I get to connect and ask them about themselves. I just like to, you know, I actually have a coffee bar in my shop and like a seating area cuz I want people to sit and hang out with me like this. So, um, that's probably it. just the connecting with my customers. I can see why. I mean, especially because it's almost like you're helping them on their journey to finding out a version of themselves.

Chapter 04

Challenges of a Solo Business

Um, what are some of the challenges that you face when you're when you're dealing with trend resetters? What are some things that kind of make it a little harder every day? Yeah. Um, well, it's just me right now and a onewoman show is very hard. Um, and with this new change that I'm doing, I'm now committing to being the one that's there 5 days a week, which is going to be new. Um, but I'm excited. I think that's going to help me like get in a routine. You know, it will be challenging because I have to be there, but I think it'll help me overall with my routine. Um, but yeah, it's just doing all the things. I don't love doing social media. I like to do authentic social media. So, like, here's me and what I'm wearing today or like, hey, how you doing? You know, I don't like to be strategic with it. And so I struggle with that. Um but I know it's a necessary evil. Um so that and then honestly taxes, accounting, all the like sit at your desk, that's why I started my business cuz I don't like any of that. Yeah. Um but opening this store, I had to overcome a lot of that and just do it. So yeah, wearing all the hats, that's got to be it's just, you know, not all the hats fit really is what it is. Exactly. But you know, you you you make do and you do the things. How do you overcome the challenges of things? Like what is it that you do to set yourself up and say this is how I'm going to overcome this and and get to my goal?

Chapter 05

Adopting a ‘Go Mode’ Mindset

Honestly, lately it's been very much like don't think, just do. I use the Nike slogan a lot which sounds silly but I think they're really on to something like just do it because the more you think about something like you're stressing over something that's not even happening yet. So if you just do it and don't think about it, it's going to get done and you won't put yourself through all that turmoil. True. So, I'm just in like go mode. Yeah, that's true. So, with go mode in mind, um when you think over the next few years, when you think of what success looks like for you, uh what is that?

Chapter 06

Future Vision: Community‑Centric Store Experience

What is the success of the next few years? So, I really just hope to be a very established business in Greer and plugged in with a lot of other local businesses as well, like makers and just small businesses. I want to have like um wholesale coffee from local coffee people, coffee makers. Um I want to have events with people out popped up in my lot. Um I want to have local artists featured in my store. I just want to have a place that feels very much community driven because I've always been really passionate about that even in my other jobs and other businesses. It's the connection for me. So, I'm really hoping that I have all these connections and we're all thriving together and Greenville, you know, comes to all of us and, you know, has a good experience. Absolutely. No, cultivating an experience is kind of the thing that I feel like a lot of businesses leave out. So, when you see those pieces come together, you know, how does that make you feel as a business owner? Makes me feel wonderful because that's my ultimate goal. Like that is with the way I designed my store. I designed it in mind with uh with creating an experience in mind like very strategic about where I put things. And even in my

Chapter 07

bathroom, I didn't want to use the light. Like don't turn on the light in my bathroom. I installed sconces that are like a warm soft light so that it feels really luxurious in there. I put mints in there. I just want people to have a place to go where they're like excited and they feel, you know, included and thought about and just Yeah. have a good experience. Yeah. Mhm. That's pretty cool. Mhm.

Chapter 08

Origins: Pandemic Launch and Business Readiness

Now, when you think about how all this came to be, what would you say was your big push that led you to jump into this? Um, okay. Are you talking about the store specifically or my business? The store specifically. Okay. So, I've been in business for 5 years. Um, I started it kind of right after CO. Um, I was working at Lululemon at the time and I was very unhappy. I thought I wanted to be like corporate and all that and I was the assistant manager during COVID. Our manager left and it was also like the end of the season where it's crazy for retail. So anyway, started my business then um and it brought me a lot of joy and I went full-time in it pretty quickly. And then I did markets for a couple years. I was online for my first year or two and then I did markets and I met my friend Savannah who I know you met Disorderly Conduct Vintage and um once she decided to open a store, she asked me to partner with her. So I moved in with her and kind of dropped the markets for a couple years and we were a great team and then I think that once my baby cuz I was pregnant when we opened and then he was obviously a newborn and under one for most of the time but once he started getting old enough to like okay now he doesn't need me as much. I was like I'm craving my business like I just want to go and like hit the you know hit the pedal. So yeah I think that we were both just on the same page with that. like we're both ready to grow and bloom and do all the business things. So yeah. Yeah, I was just ready. I just knew.

Chapter 09

Reflecting on Rapid Grand Opening Success

I think that's the thing that a lot of people talk about is they say they wish they would have started faster or they wish they would have just jumped into their idea. So it seems like you had some runway and you you just got to get a feeling of when it was the right time. So Exactly. For sure. What does that feel like when you finally made that decision and you have a little bit of time to look back and say, "Yeah, that's it." Is that what what did what did that feel like? I mean, honestly, I haven't had a lot of time cuz my grand opening was Saturday and I got the key to my place on February 1st. Um, so I literally did 3 weeks to get this going. Um, and I even worked another job like a couple of days in the middle of this last week that were like 15 hour days. So truly, I have not had a break. Okay. Or time to think about it. But I will say after Saturday, I had a lot of gratitude and I was super duper grateful and I just knew that I made the right decision. It was confirmation. So yeah, I haven't had a lot of reflecting time, but I'm feeling very proud of myself. Little pat on the back. I did all the hard things, even the things that I didn't want to do. Um, and yeah, it worked out. It paid off. So looking back on all of that, uh, even living it now. Yeah. What is what is it that you would give as advice to others who are in your shoes that are getting started, thinking

Chapter 10

Advice: Action, Intuition, and Persistence

about getting started or they have a passion, they want to make it their business. What's your advice to those people? Well, first off, thinking about something will never ever get you anywhere. So, if you've thought for a very long time, of course, you have to think a little bit, but if you've been thinking for, you know, months on end or years even, it's time to start doing. So, I would say, you know, whatever you believe in, I believe in signs and spiritual signs and things like that. Um, I tune into those. And if you if you feel in your intuition, you know it's right, like just do it. Like I said, just do it. Um, but strategically, I'd say make a list of like the top most important things that are your next steps. Um, and don't overwhelm yourself with that. Like, make it things that are, you know, attainable and you can do them. Um, and just start doing that and then that list is going to grow and you just keep adding to it and you'll get there. Absolutely. Yeah. If you have one thing that you wish you could have done differently, good or bad, big or small, magic wand situation, what would that be? What would your magic wand be with my store? Mhm. Okay. Um, that's a tough question. That's one of the ones we ask here. Um, honestly, I really don't know cuz I feel really proud of everything. Then that's a good feeling to have. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. I even like one of the things that was like the most daunting for me was implementing a system for my inventory like where everything's barcoded in in a digital system and I even did that. So like it did have a hiccup on Saturday so I couldn't use it but I figured it out what I need and we're going to finish it this week. So like yeah I even did that. I didn't want to but I wanted to you know. Yeah. You wanted the bigger thing to happen. You didn't necessarily want the the headache. Yeah. But, you know, powering through. That's an amazing way to do it. And then you get to see all the happiness on the other end. Do you do you see the happiness on your customers faces when they find that peace? Yes. Or you help them find that piece? Yes, for sure. Oh my goodness. So much of that on Saturday. Like I I'm still kind of reliving it.

Chapter 11

Closing Reflections: Joyful Experience & Store Info

Um I'm a visual person so I can like play movies in my head all day. Absolutely. Oh, you can get lost in that. Yeah. You got to watch out. I know. I know. So when you replay Saturday, what what does that movie look like? Um just a lot of people coming in and like gasping and bright eyes and just a lot of you know this is one of the coolest stores I've ever been in and um a lot of people having the coffee and like going and um having boba with the vendors outside um and a lot of sales like I have cool stuff and people like it and it made them feel good and you know I had a girl that came in and I'm closer to her now but she used to come to our other store and I actually sold her her wedding dress and she came in and got another beautiful gown for me and she was like, "I'm getting my wedding dress altered this week." And um she's like, "You're closer to me now, so I'll see you more." So, it's just like consistently building on those relationships that I've already created cuz I've been in business for 5 years. So, I have a little bit of, you know, this everywhere now, but I'm really excited to build it in my own space and have that, you know. Yeah. So, so on a closing note here, what do you think sets you apart? What sets Trend Resetters different from everything else people can find in Greenville? Like all the businesses in general? Yeah, sure. We'll shoot a big one. Go for it. Um, I would say, you know, there's a lot of great businesses in Greenville, but it's truly a place where you walk in and you feel comfortable and happy. Like my number one word when I was designing my store was joy. Like I want people to walk in and feel joy. And it's because there's a lot of darkness in the world and a lot of heaviness and I don't know I think people just need a space that they can go in and feel happy and you know someplace other than the bar or you know going out on a Saturday night like some place they can go to with their family and their friends during the day and you know I just feel like that's very needed. So um I think it's just a place that makes you happy. Absolutely. I think that's a good place to close it. Um, if you want to, do you want to look into the camera and you can tell them who you are and how to find you and Yeah. Sure. So, I'm Maranda. I'm the owner of Trend Resetters Vintage and I am in Greer. So, right when you're going into downtown Greer, it's 105 Hunt Street D. Um, Greer 29650 if you need that. And I am closed Sundays and Mondays cuz it's just me and mama needs a break. Um, but I'll be there Tuesdays through Fridays from 12:00 to 6:00 and then Saturdays 11 to 7. So that's pretty much it. Sounds fantastic. I'm I'm hoping that you reap all the benefits and people come in and and see the vibe and and just continue to come. Thank you. I appreciate that. Good to talk to you today. Yes, you too.
